An Idea: Add Some Me Time To Your Days

After a month and a half away from blogging and mostly from the internet, it seems like a good time to write about this. They say when a child enters your life your world suddenly goes from being about yourself to being about them, and boy is that true. Every single thing that used to be a given in your life is now a luxury, especially ‘me time’.

Now let me tell you that having time for yourself should be a priority too! We all need those quiet times to destress and find ourselves, because it’s very easy to get so involved in family life that you forget your an individual and not only a mother / partner / daughter / sister etc. You’re an individual too with needs that are sometimes deemed selfish. This post was born a few days ago when a friend was complaining that he couldn’t go to the pub that night because his Mrs was going to a gym class and he had to stay home with his child. Now, his Mrs is a stay at home mum and relies on him to be home so she can go to her gym class once or twice a week. I think we can all agree that after spending an entire day (let alone a week) with the kids we could do with some time away, but how often do we actually put the time aside to do it?

It’s not selfish to take 10-15 minutes a day to just be by yourself. Meditate, do yoga, read a few chapters of your book, hell why not browse Instagram or Facebook if you can’t during the day? If you’re able to get out for half an hour or so take yourself for a walk or go for a coffee at your favourite cafe. Just remember to always look after yourself and your mental health. With so many people relying on you, it’s easy to exist and not live. Having kids takes up a large chunk of our lives as women, and sometimes we can give up more than our male counter parts. Our bodies change (not always for the better), we take time off work (up to a year per child) and some times sacrifice our whole ‘self’ for the family life.
